Advancing Planetary Health — SDGs 13, 14 & 15

Section Editor

Fernando O. Mardones, Pontifical Catholic University of Chile

The aim of the section of Planetary Health is to provide an open access platform to report high-quality scientific knowledge that study and characterize the inextricably linked dependencies between human health and the health of the natural systems. Our vision is to encourage the preservation and sustainability of natural systems for the benefit of human health aligned with the sustainable development goals (SDGs 13 [Climate Action], 14 [Life Below Water] and 15 [Life on Land]). We welcome timely research submissions covering science-based approaches of any topic consistent with this aim and SDGs including climate change and its impacts, life in oceans, global food and agricultural systems,  and use of terrestrial ecosystems as they relate to human health and wellbeing. We particularly favor studies conducted in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and led by persons from LMICs.

The section on planetary health welcomes submissions of the following topics, including but not limited to:

  • Public health
  • Vectors and vector-borne diseases
  • Zoonoses
  • One Health
  • Disease spatial surveillance
  • Ecosystem Health and health economics
  • Climate change
  • Animal production systems and greenhouse gas emissions
  • Food safety, antimicrobial use and antimicrobial resistance

Submissions may include original research, brief report, case studies, perspectives, opinion and commentaries, systematic review, and policy brief.
